چکیده

A computational approach to uncertainty management requires support for interactive and incremental problem formulation, inference, hypothesis testing, and decision making. Most current uncertainty inference systems concentrate primarily on inference, and provide no sup port for the larger issues. We present a computational approach to uncertainty management which provides direct support for the dynamic, incremental aspect of this task, while at the same time permitting direct representation of the structure of evidential relationships. At the same time, we show that this approach responds to the modularity concerns of Beckerman and Horvitz [Heckerman & Horvitz, 1987]. This paper emphasizes examples of the capabilities of this approach. Another paper [D'Ambrosio, 1988] details the representations and algorithms

The myth of modularity in rule-based systems for reasoning with uncertainty

In this paper, we examine the concept of modularity, an often cited advantage of the ruled based representation methodology. We argue that the notion of modularity consists of two distinct concepts which we call syntactic modularity and semantic modularity. We argue that when reasoning under uncertainty, it is reasonable to regard the rutebased approach as both syntactically and semantically ...

Uncertainty analysis of hierarchical granular structures for multi-granulation typical hesitant fuzzy approximation space

Hierarchical structures and uncertainty measures are two main aspects in granular computing, approximate reasoning and cognitive process. Typical hesitant fuzzy sets, as a prime extension of fuzzy sets, are more flexible to reflect the hesitance and ambiguity in knowledge representation and decision making. In this paper, we mainly investigate the hierarchical structures and uncertainty measure...

Maximum Maintainability of Complex Systems via Modulation Based on DSM and Module Layout.Case Study:Laser Range Finder

The present paper aims to investigate the effects of modularity and the layout of subsystems and parts of a complex system on its maintainability. For this purpose, four objective functions have been considered simultaneously: I) maximizing the level of accordance between system design and optimum modularity design,II) maximizing the level of accessibility and the maintenance space required,III...

Comprehensive Decision Modeling of Reverse Logistics System: A Multi-criteria Decision Making Model by using Hybrid Evidential Reasoning Approach and TOPSIS (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In the last two decades, product recovery systems have received increasing attention due to several reasons such as new governmental regulations and economic advantages. One of the most important activities of these systems is to assign returned products to suitable reverse manufacturing alternatives. Uncertainty of returned products in terms of quantity, quality, and time complicates the decis...
